These pulps can be used in most commercial printing and writing grades. Pulps with a high balsam fir content, from the maritime area, have thin walled fibres and are particularly suited for such grades as packaging and release papers, the latter of which, requires a smooth dense sheet. Pulps produced in the inland areas, are particularly suited for tissue and towelling grades, since they develop tensile strength very quickly, without too much loss of absorbency. The limited availability of these pulps implies that they tend to be used only in premium grade disposable paper products. |
