Equipment Description:Screening

Screening in a stock preparation system is done to remove contaminants from the stock. It is not common to have screens in the main line as this job is done by the Approach Flow Screens. It is however normal to screen the paper machine broke before returning it to the system as this can pick up contaminants which can damage equipment and reduce the overall stock quality. The broke flakes must also be removed and treated. |

Screens can be vertical or horizontal in design. In most cases a screen used in stock prep broke screening will have a cylindrical basket and a rotor. The basket provides a physical barrier to the contaminants whilst allowing the stock to pass through it. In this design the rotor has foils that exert a pushing and pulling force on the basket surface to prevent blocking of the basket. This force is determined by the foil design and the speed that the foil travels along the basket surface. There are a number of differing combinations of rotor and basket but the basic priciples are the same in each case. |
